Silicon Valley bus honors local LGBTQ+ leaders - San Jose Spotlight
"VTA Artist Haley Tang wanted to pay homage to the trailblazers and activists who have in turn created the queer community we have today - specifically in the Bay Area,"
"It sort of sends a signal to the rest of the population, that we support our LGBTQ community and we're willing to do it in a very visible way,"
"That feeds upon itself, particularly with all the issues that are going on and increases in homophobia."
VTA drove a decorated Pride bus during the 50th anniversary parade with artwork themed "50 years of Love, Legacy & Liberation" featuring portraits of national and local LGBTQ+ leaders. The bus will retain its decorations and continue running regular routes through the end of the year. VTA has decorated a bus annually since 2017 with images of historical figures and Bay Area leaders such as Harvey Milk, Billy DeFrank and Ken Yeager. Ken Yeager marched alongside the bus and emphasized the importance of visible government support amid rising homophobia and federal attacks.
