Nepal's Supreme Court rules trans woman is a woman in landmark case
Briefly

The Supreme Court's landmark ruling in Nepal sets a precedent for trans rights by allowing a trans woman to be recognized without medical verification. Others still need to individually petition for the same.
Rukshana Kapali, a human rights activist, sued the Nepalese government over 50 times since 2021 to push for rights-based recognition of gender identity, resulting in this positive legal outcome.
While Nepal has previously allowed gender markers as 'other' or 'third gender' based on self-ID, changing gender to 'M' or 'F' necessitated gender-affirming surgery and examinations - a requirement now removed by the court ruling.
Transgender activist Kapali expressed relief after the court verdict, stating it ends discrimination she faced and will now make her life easier without stigmatization.
