Jack Murley worked for BBC Radio Cornwall from 2019 to 2024 and was dismissed for social media posts breaching impartiality guidelines. Murley alleged discrimination linked to his sexuality and his role as a National Union of Journalists representative. Two employment tribunals in February and October 2025 found the BBC's dismissal decision was not related to his sexuality or NUJ role. An internal BBC investigation catalogued repeated instances of homophobic and discriminatory abuse, and an in-person "unconditional" apology was delivered to Murley. The BBC initially did not acknowledge the meeting but later had COO Jason Horton send a letter apologizing for "the behaviors and comments" Murley faced.
