La Cuadra San Cristobal, a significant project on the outskirts of Mexico City, will serve as a center for architecture and art, celebrating the work of renowned architect Luis Barragán. Initiated by architect Fernando Romero, this endeavor includes a permanent exhibition about Barragán's life, gallery spaces, artists’ studios, and a café. The project emphasizes the integration of architecture and art, akin to Barragán’s approach in his own work. Notably, Marina Abramović's recent collaboration marks a dynamic start for La Cuadra, which will host an annual artist residency and temporary exhibitions.
The project, seven years in the making, aims to marry architecture and art in the same way Barragán did in his lifetime, sharing his extraordinary legacy.
My best education was visiting Barragán's work, and I hope this project will mean we can share his extraordinary legacy even more widely, says Fernando Romero.
