Briefly

California developers filed permits for 111,221 homes last year, 6% fewer than in 2022. Single-family permits decreased by 8%, and multifamily permits by 3%; the Inland Empire's multifamily permits surged by 89%.
The overall permit decline was due to an uncertain economy and fears of excess apartment construction. Northern California had a 10% decline, Southern California a 6% drop. In Los Angeles and Orange County, single-family permits rose by 7%, but multifamily permits fell by 13%.
