New Vanderbilt center aims to place national security students at unexpected government agencies

A lot of the time, we think only of the military element of our national power, but there's a diplomatic and informational and economic element to it.
Why not have an internship - someone here from Vanderbilt - being in the Department of Commerce? Hard to believe that there's any place more important right now with regards to semiconductors than the Department of Commerce.
Nakasone highlighted how engagement in sectors beyond traditional military roles, like commerce or cyberspace policy, can provide students with diverse critical thinking skills vital for national security.
These less-expected positions than those at DOD, CIA and other parts of the defense and intelligence community let students build more diverse critical thinking skills to address contemporary national security challenges.
