1,000-year-old scabbard fitting found in Poland
Briefly

A metal detectorist in northern Poland has unearthed a rare, fully preserved medieval sword scabbard fitting, believed to have belonged to a Prussian warrior. This over thousand-year-old bronze piece, known as a shoe, protects the scabbard's vulnerable tip and symbolizes power and wealth, making the already-expensive sword visually striking. The finder, Micha Motek, hopes the artifact will be displayed in the Museum in Ostroda, which already houses four similar pieces of early medieval history, reflecting its significance in the region's heritage.
