Prakhar Singhania outlined that in rural India, 40% of fruits and vegetables are wasted due to inadequate cold storage, with his project aimed at addressing this issue.
His project, Cold Bank, seeks to minimize food waste by offering an off-grid, electricity-free cold storage system that would keep produce fresh for Indian farmers.
Singhania highlighted that only 20% of food produced in India goes through a cold chain, emphasizing the need for innovative solutions in post-harvest cooling.
The BIG Idea Competition at Cornell provided Singhania with the opportunity to present his idea, which ultimately earned him a $3,000 top prize.
