Rethinking what it means to age - Harvard Gazette
"It's thorny, because in a way we have to accept that people get older and might have bad outcomes. But then again, are we sure?"
"Despite the challenges, an increasingly visible cohort of older Americans aren't just living longer. They're also extending their healthspans, creating new models for what it means to age well."
Life expectancy in the U.S. has reached a record 79 years, but many older adults live with chronic health issues. Approximately 93% of adults over 65 have at least one chronic condition, and 42% of those over 55 may develop dementia.
