The Centers for Disease Control is investigating an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder hamburgers, with 49 confirmed cases across 10 states.
The CDC has reported that most cases of E. coli infection are concentrated in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Nebraska, with at least 26 illness reports in Colorado alone.
McDonald's has halted the sale of fresh, slivered onions and quarter-pound beef patties in affected states while working with the CDC to identify the contaminated ingredient.
Symptoms of E. coli, which can include severe complications like kidney failure, typically present three to four days after consuming contaminated food, with most recovering within a week.
