As FDA probes source of national E. coli outbreak, California firm recalls onion products

As the U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigates an E. coli outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounders, major restaurant chains are recalling raw sliced onions produced by Taylor Farms.

Investigators are assessing whether the slivered onions or beef patties on Quarter Pounder burgers are the likely source of contamination, but no definitive source has been identified.

Bill Marler, a food safety attorney, noted that handling contaminated onions is an increasingly prevalent issue, referencing an earlier incident involving Taylor Farms vegetables.

The CDC confirmed that the outbreak has sickened at least 75 individuals across 12 states, with one fatality, emphasizing the serious public health implications.
