Phil Schraeder, CEO of GumGum Advertising, shares his journey from a small-town upbringing to discovering his true self in Los Angeles. Growing up, he was captivated by game shows, especially 'The Price Is Right,' bonding with siblings and fostering a competitive spirit. After college and facing personal struggles, including debt and a desire for authenticity, he relocated to LA. To make ends meet, Schraeder began competing on game shows, winning significant prizes, and reconnecting with his childhood aspirations while exploring his identity.
When I arrived, all I had was my car and what I could fit inside of it. I had no job, and I was in credit card debt.
I ended up going on The Price Is Right with Bob Barker - and won. I walked away with $900 in cash, an amusement park popcorn cart and a grandfather clock.
I became fixated on those game shows, ones like The Price Is Right and Sale of the Century, and I'd play them with my siblings.
I wanted to come out of the closet. I felt very held back from my authentic self.
