Older Chromecast devices, specifically the second-generation Chromecast and Chromecast Audio, have been experiencing issues that prevent content from being cast. Users receive error messages such as "Untrusted device" or "We couldn't authenticate your Chromecast". While a fix is being rolled out by Google, some users who factory reset their devices in an attempt to resolve the problem may find they cannot set up their devices again. Frustration among users is high, with many trying different solutions without success.
Several days ago, a Google Nest representative on the official support forum posted, 'We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.'
Frustration mounted on Reddit, where users have reportedly tried a number of fixes, including restarting the device, reinstalling Google Home, removing the device from Google Home and adding it again, restoring the device to factory settings, clearing cache data, and changing networks, but nothing works.
