Freshmen at La Salle Academy were tasked with selecting a recipient for a $3,333 microgrant as part of a learning project. After five months of discussion, they chose Basic School No. 1152 in Paraguay, which urgently needed a solid waste disposal system due to its lack of clean water. The decision was tough as other schools in South Sudan and Kenya were also finalists, but the young men felt a strong sense of urgency to help the Paraguayan school. Their teacher emphasized the students' development of empathy through this meaningful experience.
The boys learned empathy through deliberating which sister school would receive a life-changing grant, ultimately choosing Basic School No. 1152 in Paraguay.
Brother Richard Galvin noted that the grant will better the environment in Paraguay, helping create sanitary conditions and a safe place for children.
