The British Netflix drama 'Adolescence' has received approval from the French education ministry to be shown in secondary schools starting at age 14. This decision, announced by Education Minister Elisabeth Borne, aims to raise awareness about the toxic online influences faced by young boys, including the trivialization of violence and misogynistic ideologies. The series, which depicts the tragic consequences of online radicalization and boys' exposure to harmful societal norms, has gained traction following a surge in related youth violence, making it Netflix's second most-watched English-language series.
"The excerpts from the mini-series are very representative of the violence that can exist among young people," Borne said, highlighting its relevance.
"This initiative will help start conversations about the content teenagers consume online," said UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, endorsing the series' educational use.
