This new Thai restaurant looks like the inside of a luxe train car
Briefly

Chef Dhanapol 'Oak' Marprasert, who grew up in Bangkok's Samsen neighborhood, has crafted a culinary career that juxtaposes traditional Thai street food with influences from the American BBQ scene. After moving to the States in 2014, he honed his skills in Tennessee before launching two restaurants in New York City: Makin and Kam Rai Thai. His latest venture not only highlights his Thai roots but also embodies his love of barbecue, aiming to present a diverse culinary experience to Manhattan diners as he celebrates his journey from family gatherings to restaurant ownership.
My passion for cooking started by watching my mother. Growing up, I saw how she used food to bring our family together and care for everyone.
Ready to bring his cuisine to a global stage, he moved to New York and opened the affordable Thai eatery, Makin, in 2020, following up the contemporary Thai restaurant, Kam Rai Thai, in 2023.
