An Italian born chef brings the flavors of Sicily to the LA Arts District
"What I feel is that I'm bringing the Sicilian culture, Sicilian flavors and hospitality here to L.A.,"
"Once people walk through the door I want them to feel transported to a different space and time,"
"I do take dishes that are traditional and what I do is elevate them on the look and the way we treat the elements of the dish,"
"This is the most simple but most flavorful pasta. I would say this is an icon of Sicilian pasta,"
Michele Galifi, born and raised in Palermo, Sicily, discovered a passion for cooking at age eight while working in the family restaurant. Galifi opened Bianca Sicilian Trattoria in late September in a 1931 corner building in Downtown Los Angeles' Arts District, combining a weathered exterior with a modern interior and patio seating. The menu emphasizes house-made pastas, antipasto, steaks, seafood and pizzas with elevated presentations and careful treatment of ingredients. Signature dishes include Aglio & Olio with Mafalde pasta, anchovies, roasted garlic and toasted breadcrumbs, and Polpo roasted after a long sous-vide in olive oil and bay leaves.
