In His New Film, Oakland Rapper Bryce Savoy Explores Fatherhood Through Generations | KQED

Zimri's birth brought joy and compounded Savoy's grief because Zimri will never meet his grandfather and arrived with serious health complications. Savoy created a 30-minute documentary titled Big Bryce Son to capture this moment and to process grief through artistry. The Oakland premiere will screen Nov. 14 at Rhythm Section Art Lounge. The film features more than a dozen interviews across California and clips from a father-son podcast in which Big Bryce praises Savoy and his albums. Savoy released Just Keep Shining on Nov. 3, named for a sustaining mantra. Savoy frames the project as testament to perseverance, resilience and the unifying force of hip-hop.
