Elizabeth Sankey's documentary "Witches" begins as a visual essay on witchcraft and transforms into a profound exploration of postpartum anxiety, connecting film portrayals to lived experiences.
Initially afraid of the psychiatric ward, I later found it to be a safe space where I could bond with my son and connect with other women suffering.
This project started off as a way of understanding what happened to me. Watching women behave badly in films soothed me during that time.
I realized my film had a bigger and deeper purpose; I wanted numerous women to tell their stories, as that had helped me feel less alone.
