Lily King, an aspiring interior designer and historic preservation major, has transformed her one-bedroom rental into a personal sanctuary over three years. Initially marked by dull gray and beige, her space now reflects a 'lived-in, curated' aesthetic that embodies her eclectic tastes. King sources many items from secondhand shops and antiques, which adds character and warmth to her home. Notably, her custom upholstered Pottery Barn couch exemplifies her balance of affordability and luxury, showcasing her creative approach to interior design.
"I feel like my space has taken on this lived-in, curated style that is timeless and true to me," Lily explains. "I tend to gravitate towards certain items and colors and don't let a certain 'style type' or aesthetic influence my decisions. If I like it, it goes!"
Lily's home has that 'lived-in' feel because several pieces are thoughtfully sourced from secondhand shops or antique markets. For example, the couch in her living room is originally from Pottery Barn, but she got it from a local store for a 'steal' of a price because it was bare and without upholstery.
