Barcelona president Joan Laporta expressed frustration over the team's performance in crucial matches, notably the Clásicos and their Champions League exit. This prompted a coaching change and a significant revamp of the team's fitness department, bringing in specialists like Julio Tous. The new fitness regime has already shown positive effects, with players noting improved endurance in matches, allowing them to maintain performance levels through the later stages of games. This restructuring aims to ensure better results moving forward in LaLiga and other competitions.
"The team dipped after the 60th minute physically," Laporta said at the end of the campaign in an interview with the club's in-house media. "We did not finish games as we wanted."
"We work much harder than before," midfielder Pedri said in September. "The new fitness coaches that have come in are really good for us. You notice it in games. The team doesn't dip after the 70th or 80th minute."
