Amanda York, diagnosed with a brain tumor at age 11, faced severe hormonal complications and weight issues post-surgery. At 38, she found success in weight management not through rigorous exercise but through yoga and a focus on mental well-being. Joining the health club Life Time in 2016 transformed her mindset, emphasizing stress reduction alongside fitness. With hormonal treatments and a tailored diet, she integrated mindfulness into her routine, showcasing yoga’s benefits on both physical and mental health, leading to lasting improvements in her life and wellness after struggling for years.
"I went into menopause when I was 11... I went home at 160 pounds. A year after surgery, I was 250 pounds," she said.
"I started taking yoga and seeing incredible mental health and wellness benefits positively impacting my life," she told Today.
"Now, I'm focused on my strength. I'm focused on my overall mental health and mind/body awareness. Yoga keeps me grounded so I can better deal with stress in daily life," York added.
"Research has shown that yoga can improve balance and flexibility, reduce anxiety, enhance heart and lung function and improve sleep quality."
