"I want people to know that they're not alone and that I'm baking along with them," says Velez.
"They're just ingredients and I want people to play with them," she says.
Bodega Bakes is an ode to Velez's Dominican heritage and New York City roots. It's a love letter to the corner stores that anchor communities and the power of food to bring people together.
Velez helped launch Bakers Against Racism, a virtual bake sale that raised over $2.5 million for social justice causes worldwide.
