We're at a crisis of representation in entrepreneurship, the classic tale of how to 'get there' doesn't apply. All-women founding teams have never raised more than 3% in venture capital funding since at least 2014... romanticized story sanitizes the messy reality of entrepreneurship, ignores the voices and experiences of diverse and female founders.
Founder stories are often told as individual journeys that skip over difficult trials until profitability is reached. This inauthentic storytelling creates a crisis for female founders, breeding imposter syndrome and feelings of isolation.
Reliance on the conventional hero's journey fails to reflect the obstacles diverse and female founders face, especially in funding. Only 1.1% goes to companies with minority founders, despite female founders yielding 35% higher ROI than males.
