The 'State of Quantum 2024' report indicates a steep decline in VC investment in Quantum computing, dropping from $2.2 billion in 2022 to $1.2 billion. This shift is attributed to a preference for Generative AI investments. Nevertheless, government funding for quantum technology is forecasted to total $40 billion in the next decade. In response to these trends, QDNL Participations has launched a €60 million fund targeting early-stage quantum startups, intending to broaden their investments globally beyond the Dutch ecosystem that previously received their support.
Quantum is a global field. There's been incredible research done in the past decade or so and we've seen the emerging of a new, startup ecosystem, with 600 or more companies coming up.
QDNL's appearance is the latest sign that the Netherlands is making a play to be a key Quantum computing ecosystem, and the government has already backed an entire initiative called Quantum Delta NL.
