EU plagued by hundreds of dangerous crime gangs: Europol report
Briefly

The organisations involved in drug trade spread into legitimate businesses and try to influence the legal system by threatening or bribing prosecutors and judges, as per a report by Europol. Efforts are being made to crack down on these criminal networks through enhanced coordination across EU member states.
"The message to the most threatening criminal networks is you can't hide anymore," said Europol chief Catherine De Bolle. Belgium's interior minister, Annelies Verlinden, emphasized a new era in fighting organized crime with innovative strategies and collaboration.
"The majority of Europe's most dangerous gangs focus on drug smuggling like cocaine, cannabis, heroin, and synthetic drugs," stated the report, with activities including extortion, racketeering, and migrant- and gun-smuggling. Leaders are primarily within the EU, but some are outside in regions like UAE, Turkey, Morocco, and South America.
