His decisive solo attack over the Oude Kwaremont allowed him to distance himself from a five-rider breakaway, ultimately finishing the race 1:07 ahead of Mads Pedersen and 2:05 ahead of Filippo Ganna. The earlier collaboration among the breakaway group deteriorated as Van der Poel executed his attack, leading to a confidently executed victory. In his post-race comments, he expressed gratitude towards his team for their support throughout the challenging race.
