Minister for Culture, Patrick O'Donovan TD, visited the National Museum of Ireland to preview an exhibition of archaeological finds from Limerick, including an 8th or 9th-century brooch-pin. This brooch, crafted from bronze with intricate glass settings and designs, was discovered during an excavation for the Adare Bypass. The upcoming exhibition titled 'Words on the Wave: Ireland and St. Gallen in Early Medieval Europe' will highlight over 100 artefacts, including another important find, a 6th/7th-century hand-pin, demonstrating the rich cultural exchange between medieval Ireland and Europe.
"This brooch is a truly remarkable find, beautifully detailed and dating back over a thousand years. It serves as a testament to the remarkable skill, craftsmanship, and cultural wealth of the Early Medieval period in County Limerick."
"The exhibition will explore the connections between medieval Ireland and Europe, showcasing over 100 objects that tell the story of our shared history."
