Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett cautions Premier League clubs about heightened penalties for failing to address abuse towards referees. Liverpool manager Arne Slot received a two-match ban and a £70,000 fine for his confrontation with referee Michael Oliver during the recent Merseyside derby. This incident occurred after Everton equalized in a last-minute draw. Slot disputed parts of the charges but accepted the overall responsibility. Other Premier League managers have also faced disciplinary actions, highlighting the ongoing issue of conduct towards officials.
At an FA disciplinary meeting, Slot was alleged to have told Oliver that he "f*cking gave [Everton] everything", and that he was a "f***ing disgrace".
Keith Hackett has warned Premier League clubs they could face more severe sanctions if they are unable to curb abuse towards officials.
Slot accepted the charge and apologised, disputing only part of the allegation regarding his comments.
Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo and Brighton counterpart Fabian Hurzeler were both sent off for entering the pitch without permission during their clash.
