California is in the middle of an ambitious plan to offer transitional kindergarten to all 4-year-olds by the 2025-26 school year.
Starting in the fall of 2025, all kids who turn 4 by the beginning of the school year will be guaranteed a spot in TK. Nearly 50% of districts offer early admittance for students turning 4 by Sept. 1.
Skills for learning goals include focusing attention, using vocabulary, problem-solving, and collaborating. Transitional kindergarten provides a 'grace period' to develop these skills.
The curriculum in transitional kindergarten should include literacy, math, and science activities that are well-planned to support children's learning.
