In August of 2022, a resident of Denton, Texas, appeared before his school board to demand the removal of a salacious library book. He read aloud passages from the novel describing detailed sexual acts. But the book he was reading from, Love Lies Beneath, wasn't actually available in the school district's libraries. He had confused the sexy psychological thriller with Lies Beneath, a young-adult novel about mermaids.

Abortion rights group Reproaction notes that the "Baby Olivia" video claims that fetuses experience hiccups at seven weeks gestation, when scientists and medical professionals have repeatedly stated that fetal hiccups don't begin until 23 weeks. That kind of deception is a key tactic of Live Action, an anti-abortion group that produced the video. Lila Rose, the president of Live Action, has inaccurately said that abortion is " never medically necessary," and supports forcing rape and incest victims to bear their abusers' child. David Daleiden, who infamously released doctored videos smearing Planned Parenthood and was convicted for illegally recording protected communications between patients and reproductive health care providers, is a former Live Action staffer.

France's 'cultural canon' includes a range of classic novels which most French people will have read (or watched the movie, or at least heard of) and which are therefore often referenced. First the caveat, there isn't an official list that makes up the French cultural canon when it comes to literature - but there are various lists of the most famous, many of which are on the school syllabus.
