Following a tragic shooting incident at an adult education center in Orebro, Education Minister Johan Pehrson announced new security measures for schools. These measures will include emergency plans for violent situations, controlled access to schools with keys or badges, and authorization for simplified camera surveillance. Additionally, teachers will be allowed to search students' bags without prior warning. If passed by parliament, these measures will take effect on July 1st, 2025, in response to the shooting that left 10 dead and heightened concerns about school safety.
"We are working intensively to improve security for students, teachers and other school employees," Pehrson said.
If adopted by parliament as expected, the new measures would enter into force on July 1st, 2025.
Police are still trying to establish a clear motive for the shooting.
Andersson had been enrolled at Campus Risbergska in the past but not attended classes since 2021.
