Hundreds of students at Solano Widenmann Leadership Academy in Vallejo, California, are unable to attend school due to the theft of copper wiring from the school's electrical system. The theft has resulted in a significant financial burden of $150,000 to $250,000 for repairs. Family members express their frustration, emphasizing that for many children, school is a safe haven. Authorities are investigating the incident with plans to review surveillance footage, though no suspects have been arrested yet. The superintendent indicates repairs could take from days to weeks.
It's just very sad. A lot is going on in Vallejo right now. We are what we would like to call a 'lawless city' almost. So much is going rampant, and it's just really sad that now the crime has affected our children being able to attend school.
For some children, that's their only positive environment. That's the only safe haven they have. And to rob them from that is just inexcusable. It's just really sad.
