Thousands lose power in Berkeley Hills amid Red Flag Warning
Briefly

Pacific Gas and Electric Co. reported that due to strong, dry winds raising wildfire danger, 4,659 customers lost power in an unplanned outage in the Berkeley Hills.
Utility spokesperson Tamar Sarkissian clarified that while a pre-emptive power shutoff affected unpopulated areas, the larger outage resulted from same windy conditions causing safety concerns.
The Red Flag Warning conditions, which are forecasted to persist through Thursday morning, were created by off-shore winds that allow wildfires to spread quickly.
Forecasters prompted a warning for the city this week, indicating that utility actions were a direct response to the elevated risk of wildfires.
