Highwire Coffee Roasters announced a price increase for their beverages, primarily due to the surge in ingredient costs, including doubling prices for green coffee. Climate change and reduced harvest yields in key coffee-producing countries like Brazil are contributing to these rising costs. Co-founder Robert Myers noted that despite initial hesitance to increase prices, they could no longer absorb the costs associated with a general price rise in inputs. As a result, the price of a standard espresso at their Oakland location increased from $3.75 to $4.25.
Highwire Coffee Roasters raised their drink prices due to increasing ingredient costs, citing doubled green coffee prices and significant hikes in milk and cocoa.
Robert Myers explained that they initially resisted raising prices but could not sustain them once the cost of raw materials surged, leading to chronic unprofitability.
