Woman dies days after car hits her in San Jose

A woman was struck by a vehicle in a marked crosswalk in downtown San Jose on Oct. 1. Despite initial stabilization from life-threatening injuries, she died on Oct. 4, 2023.
Police reported that the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. when a man driving a 2018 Nissan Sentra hit the pedestrian while she was in the crosswalk.
Sengqin Luo, the victim, was an 87-year-old San Jose resident. Her death marks the 15th pedestrian fatality in San Jose this year, reflecting ongoing safety concerns.
This incident is part of a troubling trend, as it marks the 41st traffic death in San Jose for 2023, highlighting the increasing risk pedestrians face.
