The Department of Homeland Security has integrated sophisticated technology into immigration processes, using AI tools like the Hurricane Score to assess potential risks and inform ICE decisions.
DHS Chief AI Officer Eric Hysen highlighted that the Hurricane Score, which ranges from 1-5, helps ICE officers evaluate the likelihood of an immigrant absconding from supervision.
SmartLINK, a mobile app that uses facial recognition, is also part of the toolkit, enabling authorities to monitor the locations of nearly 200,000 immigrants in removal proceedings.
These advancements in technology are designed to enhance the effectiveness of immigration enforcement systems, even as they raise concerns about privacy and due process.
