Stanford University will not pursue disciplinary measures against student journalist Dilan Gohill, who was arrested during a pro-Gaza protest last June. The decision concluded a student conduct review which found no grounds for action, but Gohill still faces potential criminal charges as the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office awaits more information before making a determination. Advocates argue that Gohill's arrest represents a threat to journalistic freedom, emphasizing that journalists should not be penalized for their reporting.
In this country, we don't arrest journalists because we don't like what they're writing about, said Nick Rowley, a trial attorney and co-founder of Trial Lawyers for Justice.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office is still awaiting additional information from Stanford's Department of Public Safety before deciding whether to file charges against Gohill and other activists.
