Briefly

"We want to educate not only ourselves, but also the community where the Black cowboys came from like teaching them about Nat Love, Stagecoach Mary, Bill Pickett, Clara Brown. People of our nationality don't see Black cowboys as often. It is important to let them know it is more than just horses, it's about education." - Debra Lawson Fasuyi, teacher.
"This is for our kids. So they can know the things that we did when we were young. We want them to grab a hold to the same thing. We want them to do better, get better, be better. That's part of the Oakland Black Cowboy festival." - Sharon Buchanan, a volunteer with the association for the past 17 years.
