The Bay Area is experiencing a significant drop in temperatures following the latest of a series of storms. While the storms initially brought warmer conditions and flooding due to atmospheric river impacts, the current system has introduced much colder air, expected to keep daytime highs below the mid-50s and overnight lows potentially below freezing. Wind advisories are in effect for strong gusts along the coast, and while rain amounts will not be particularly heavy, further flooding risks may occur due to already saturated ground conditions.
NWS meteorologist Roger Gass noted that through the weekend, temperatures are going to drop significantly, with highs below the mid-50s and overnight lows potentially dipping below 32 degrees.
The current storm door has been wide open, bringing atmospheric river conditions that caused flooding previously, but the latest storm is colder and less moisture-laden.
The wind advisory today will see gusts up to 50 mph in coastal areas, while steady winds will consistently be around 15-25 mph throughout the region.
Rain is expected to be more consistent than heavy, with a total of half an inch to an inch in most areas, possibly leading to further flooding concerns due to already saturated soil.
