East Bay man charged with possessing machine gun conversion device
Briefly

Noah Bauer, 21, is charged with possessing an unregistered machine gun after he was seen in public with a firearm. Following his arrest, authorities found a 3D-printed Glock-style gun and additional components at his home, including a device engineered to convert semi-automatic handguns into fully automatic machines. While a test revealed that the device was not resilient enough to function properly, officials deemed it was designed for illegal conversion. If convicted, Bauer faces a substantial prison sentence and monetary fines, with his next court date set for March 17.
Bauer drew the attention of authorities when he showed up to a Brentwood grocery store with a firearm on Sept. 6, 2024, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Wednesday.
A Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives officer tested the device to see if it could turn a semi-automatic handgun into a machine gun.
If convicted, Bauer faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, prosecutors said.
Still, the officer concluded Bauer's device was designed and intended to convert a semi-automatic handgun into a machine gun and should therefore be considered a machine gun.
