Antioch Mayor Lamar Hernandez-Thorpe has stated that the city requires $500,000 to obtain ongoing assistance from outside law enforcement agencies to combat rising gun violence effectively.
Interim police Chief Brian Addington mentioned that while discussions for long-term aid are still in progress, he remains optimistic about potential commitments from various law enforcement agencies.
The Antioch Police Department has seen a sharp increase in gun violence this year, with 22 shootings reported, including 15 that took place last September in retaliation for a high-profile murder.
Hernandez-Thorpe's previous request for $100,000 was deemed insufficient to address the ongoing issues, leading to the request for a larger amount to ensure a sustained policing effort.
