The integration builds on an earlier partnership in which Instacart added an in-app AI search tool powered by ChatGPT to help shoppers decide meals and handle dietary restrictions. Former Instacart CEO Fidji Simo joined OpenAI as Applications CEO, strengthening ties. OpenAI is prioritizing agentic commerce and adding app integrations across ChatGPT. The features could yield revenue via a small fee per merchant sale to help offset high compute costs and current unprofitability.
