Volta Charging, known for its electric vehicle charging stations, initiated an adjacent advertising and data business called Volta Media in 2016. Shell, which acquired Volta in 2023, announced plans to completely shut down Volta Media by November and dismantle the network of over 2,000 charging stations within the year. Approximately 200 employees will be laid off as a result of this decision. Although Volta aimed to leverage its advertising network for generating revenue, it ultimately faced challenges in the volatile market.
Volta Charging, an early entrant in the advertising and data business through its subsidiary Volta Media, is being shut down by Shell, its new owner.
Volta Media, which operates over 2,000 charging stations, will cease operations by November, resulting in layoffs for its 200 employees.
