Replit's CEO Amjad Masad states that anyone can create an app in an afternoon with the right prompt. The concept of "vibe coding" allows non-technical users to generate software through natural language prompts. Replit's rapid growth is reflected in its annual revenue increase from $10 million to over $100 million in six months. Masad emphasizes that while this process lowers entry barriers for various individuals, effort and a learning curve in prompt engineering are still necessary.
"You can just have a prompt and have an app," he said on an episode of the "Big Technology Podcast" published Wednesday.
Masad referred to this shift as "vibe coding" - a term used to describe building software by writing natural language prompts that AI turns into functional code.
While it lowers the barrier to entry, it still requires time and iteration. "People need to invest effort. It's not magic," he said.
"Everyone in the world has ideas," he said. "And people build so much domain knowledge about whatever their field of work, right?"
