Instead, efforts fall upon activists such as Pari Ibrahim, who dedicates her nights to identifying victims from photos submitted by desperate families. Over 6,800 Yazidis were kidnapped in 2014, amidst a campaign that also led to 3,100 deaths. Ibrahim meticulously examines photos, searching for familiar features that might reveal the current whereabouts of those lost, highlighting the dire situation these women endure and the urgency for international attention.
The missing people are all members of a religious minority, the Yazidi, who were a particular focus of the brutal campaign of terror launched by ISIS in 2014.
Her name is Pari Ibrahim, and by day she is the executive director of a nonprofit in suburban Maryland. At night, she scours photos, hoping to locate women taken captive.
