"Having to go through those scathing, nasty, awful things just because of the color of my skin opened a lot of doors for other people," said Williams. Much of her tremendous success can be seen as a platform that empowers Black women and girls to embrace their identity with pride. She has used her influence to shine a light on racial issues and become a beacon of inspiration in the sports world.
"This has changed in the past few years with projects like the HBO documentary Being Serena... she has opened up about her personal life more than ever before, sharing the complexities of her journey including her pregnancy and the challenges faced while returning to the sport she loves after motherhood. The move towards transparency represents a significant shift in how she chooses to connect with her audience."
