Traveling alone is a choice I find myself making over and over again, and happily so. I have a husband and friends whose jobs don't always allow them the freedom to skip town… unlike mine, which, as a freelance travel journalist thankfully does.
Traveling alone is a great way to learn what excites and interests you at your very core, but it doesn't come without its risks - especially when you're a solo female traveler.
After 20 years of solo adventures, my packing list now includes some nifty safety products that… help me stay safe, whether I'm traveling alone to Kampala, Uganda, or Union, Missouri.
I recommend carrying a safety alarm to solo travelers… when activated, this tiny device emits a screeching loud siren and flashes a strobe light to deter attackers and create an opportunity for escape.
