Surveillance footage shows Delfina Galvez, 26, walking down Rev. James A. Polite Avenue carrying a green tote bag containing the infant. Authorities say she left the baby outside a residence at 1102 Rev. James A. Polite Ave. around 6:05 a.m., raising alarms about the child's safety.
Fatou Sarr, a resident where the baby was found, expressed her shock, stating, 'I was scared. I never hear that in my life,' highlighting the community's reaction to the incident.
Under New York State's Abandoned Infant Protection Act, parents can surrender a newborn up to 30 days old without facing charges if left safely at a designated location like a hospital or police station, but Galvez failed to do so.
