In the interview, Dai shares insights from his nearly four-year tenure at Roblox, noting a significant shift in his role from production to testing. He highlights the importance of reliability and productivity as key metrics guiding his decisions and leadership. Dai recounts his early days at Roblox, coming from larger tech companies like Google and LinkedIn, and how the small, fast-growing environment fostered a collaborative atmosphere. He describes the challenges he faced with the telemetry team, including managing billions of time series during periods of rapid growth and frequent on-calls.
